KQ also provided us guidance on topics ranging from university course selection to resume and interview tips, which has been instrumental in developing us in our careers. Today we are a Political Risk and Credit Underwriter at AXA/XL and a Senior Manager in Patient Care at Gilead Sciences and are very grateful to KQ for their support and mentorship.”

Directors Gigi Barit, Kathy Lines, Ricky Lines, Fiona Luck and Cynthia Cox would like to thank the generous KQ donors for investing in a positive future for Bermuda. They also would like to wish the Knowledge Quest students much success during this academic year and beyond.

Support for Knowledge Quest education initiative

Wilton Reinsurance Bermuda Limited has donated $15,000 to Knowledge Quest in support of academic scholarships.

Knowledge Quest, a Bermuda-registered charity, was founded in 2001 with a mandate to promote further education for Bermudians with limited financial means and who have otherwise been unable to secure financial support for their further education.

This year, Knowledge Quest said that it has awarded scholarships to 16 new recipients as part of its response to the increased needs associated with Covid-19 job losses and a shrinking economy.

Cynthia Cox, Knowledge Quest director, said: “Covid-19 has hit those in need the hardest and so summer savings and family assistance continue to be down, similar to last year.

”We thank Wilton Re for their generosity and for investing in a positive future for Bermuda. One hundred per cent of their donation is applied to scholarships.”

Sylvia Oliveira, CEO of Wilton Re Bermuda, said: “We appreciate Knowledge Quest’s hard work in providing much-needed financial support to motivated young Bermudians seeking university degrees. Their work changes lives, and we are grateful to be able to help.

“We especially appreciate that the Covid-19 pandemic has created greater fiscal challenges for many students at a time when there are ever more limited resources.”

Brendan Kemp, CFO of Wilton Re Bermuda, added: “Kudos to Knowledge Quest, who support deserving Bermudians achieve their education aspirations.

“In the wise words of Nelson Mandela, ‘Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world’.

“It is a pleasure to support the scholarship programme in these unprecedented Covid-19 times as Knowledge Quest continue to uplift the future of Bermuda.”

Argus Donates $17,000 To Knowledge Quest

The Argus Group has donated $17,000 to scholarship charity, Knowledge Quest, to fund higher education for Bermudians.

The funds for the Knowledge Quest donation were generated by the sale of shares held in a trust in the name of John Sainsbury, a former Chief Executive Officer of The Argus Group, for the benefit of scholarships.

Eneye Jatto [Director + former Knowledge Quest student], Cynthia Cox [Director of Knowledge Quest] and Joel Schaefer, Chair of the Argus Charitable Donations Committee.

The donation will contribute towards the 2018-19 scholarship recipients, who have not yet been selected. There are expected to be between 10 and 12 recipients who will benefit this year.

Founded in 2002, Knowledge Quest is a registered charity that provides scholarships for Bermudians to study at universities overseas as well as mentorships to empower scholarship recipients to make the most of their scholarships.

It is a ‘last resort’ scholarship fund, helping students who have been unsuccessful in obtaining full scholarships or have had funding fall through. The charity has provided scholarships to more than 150 Bermudians and spent in excess of $3 million since its inception.

Joel Schaefer, Chair of the Argus Charitable Donations Committee, says: “We are delighted to be able to support Knowledge Quest in its mission to make overseas education affordable to Bermudians. Further education increases knowledge, earnings potential and discipline and we are pleased to support this opportunity for Bermudians.”

Cynthia Cox, Director of Knowledge Quest, says: “It is only with the support of donors such as Argus that we are able to provide the support to Bermudians who want to study overseas, so we are very grateful to them.

“At Knowledge Quest, we pride ourselves on having minimal overhead expenses and all funds are paid directly to the students’ academic institutions, ensuring that all donations go straight towards students’ tuition.”

“There are so many academically talented Bermudian students who need financial aid to continue their education,” said Cynthia Cox, Director, Knowledge Quest.

“It is for this reason that Knowledge Quest was started and over the past 15 years, we have relied on the generous contributions of donors, like Marsh and Guy Carpenter, to ensure the students receive the education they deserve.

“We provide scholarships of last resort, so that after other opportunities for funding fall through or are inadequate, Knowledge Quest steps in to enable deserving Bermudians to pursue and complete their education. On behalf of the students we serve, I would like to thank Marsh and Guy Carpenter for their donation.”

Knowledge Quest was founded in 2002 and has helped more than 160 people. Every year, approximately 12 new scholarships are awarded and in any given year, about 35 scholarships are paid for.

KQ Participates In The Argus Walk The Walk Charity Fundraiser

One of Knowledge Quest’s graduates had the idea to participate in the Argus Walk the Walk on Saturday, February 26, 2012.

Argus Walk the Walk is an annual event that raises money for dozens of Bermuda charities through contributions from supporters of the walkers and sign up fees. The thinking was that this would be a great way to get together with other KQ graduates and friends while supporting the charity with needed funding. The attached picture is of Knowledge Quest graduate Lynwood Trott (University of Western Ontario – BSc in Mathematics 2009) and his wife Darnell, Cynthia Cox (Knowledge Quest Director) and Eleanor Cox.
